從歌詞的字面上看來,這不過是一首歡迎人們到舊金山觀光的歌而已...其實不只如此,
這首歌的誕生和美國60年代的嬉痞運動( Hippies )有十分密切的關係!

60年以前的美國,是個國力強盛、社會安定的國家,然而美國介入越戰,
將大批的美國大兵送入越南叢林打仗,使得在安逸環境中長大的年輕一代
開始對自身處境及國家政策產生質疑,後來有一批年輕人以消極的生活態度為抗議...
並積極追求自我的實現...搖滾樂、迷幻藥、長髮便成為這批人的標誌,他們並且自稱"嬉痞"
而舊金山在當時就是嬉痞的大本營...

嬉痞們認為"愛"可以改變世界,他們提倡回歸自然,並以"愛與和平"作為反越戰的精神口號...
他們同時認為"花"是愛的最佳象徵,當時凡是參與這個運動或認同嬉痞思想的年輕人,
都被稱為"花童"( flower children )...這首歌的歌詞,就是在提醒前往舊金山的人們~
別忘了在頭上戴一朵花,以示對嬉痞運動的認同...
